Cheryl is a caring counsellor and experienced psychiatric social worker. She specializes in trauma recovery and complex family dynamics. Cheryl adapts CBT, CPT and DBT principles to solution focused therapy: Helping you feel better about yourself and your life.

Cheryl Turner was born in Ontario and holds a Master’s of Social Work degree. She has 25 years of experience supporting adults, youth and families, in counselling, education and emergency psychiatry. Cheryl specializes in trauma recovery (PTSD) and family of origin adversity (ACE) (CPTSD); including First Nations intergenerational trauma, complex health and relationship issues.

Cheryl provides a safe, professional environment which fosters personal growth and promotes self motivation.

As an active Social Worker in Emergency Mental Health Cheryl is committed helping people to expand their understanding of themselves and the social systems around them, in order to make their best choices moving forward.

Cheryl uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), informed Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution Focused Therapy and Stages of Change, among other modalities.

Cheryl has lived, worked, taught and volunteered in Victoria since 1997. She is part of a vibrant blended family and enjoys time with her husband, adult children and grandchildren.

She is a dog rescue advocate and enjoys being out in nature: cycling, hiking, kayaking and being around the water.

As a Co-founder of The Counselling Collective Cheryl is dedicated to the promotion of community wellbeing including First Nations Health and Frist Responders: Military OSI and PTSD and Veteran’s Transition Recovery. Cheryl supports families effected by substance use and helps to navigate the mental health system; providing advocacy and education. She is enthusiastic and caring.
